EDMONTON JOURNAL: Sam Gagner’s new contract could determine his future with the Edmonton Oilers. Gagner is currently a restricted free agent, and some fans are wondering if he’ll be part of their long-term plans.

OTTAWA SUN: Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson, who’s also a restricted free agent, claims his contract negotiations with the club are going “really well”, encouraging words for Senators fans worried he’ll hold out, or become a target for an offer sheet.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty intends to take a break from skating until July, after a grueling year in which he spent all of last summer recovering from a neck injury.

CANOE.CA: The Canadiens may be on the verge of hiring J.J. Daigneault as an assistant coach.

CALGARY HERALD: The Flames are prepared for any event at the draft table at the upcoming NHL 2012 Entry Draft, which likely comes as a relief for Craig Conroy, who works in the club’s hockey operations department.
