Two reasons the Stars could be active in this summer’s trade market, examining the possibility of Jarome Iginla signing with the Stars, and Eric Nystrom’s chances of re-signing with the club.
DALLAS MORNING NEWS: Mike Heika recently conducted a live chat with Dallas Stars fans where he fielded questions over the club’s off-season plans. Heika believes the Stars will lean toward the trade market because of their depth in assets, plus the decline in the salary cap could make the trade market more active than usual. He believes new GM Jim Nill “is set up to make some good trades this summer”.
Heika also addressed a rumor which appeared in last Sunday’s Ottawa Sun suggesting the Stars might be a good landing place for potential UFA winger Jarome Iginla this summer. While acknowledging the friendship between Iginla and Stars owner Tom Gaglardi, Heika doubts the former Flames captain lands in Dallas.
As for UFA forward Eric Nystrom, Heika believes he wants t0 re-sign, but if the Stars consider cheaper alternatives, Nystrom might be allowed to test this summer’s free agent market.
