Are the Senators interested in Chris Stewart?

OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports Senators GM Bryan Murray remains ready to deal if the right offer comes along following the Olympic break. The Senators reportedly have interest in Buffalo Sabres’ winger Matt Moulson and St. Louis Blues winger Chris Stewart. The Blues likely want a roster player in return for Stewart. With eight blueliners on the roster the Senators could deal from their blueline depth.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Senators have been buyers for several weeks. Keep an eye on them in the short period between the end of the Olympic break and the March 5 trade deadline.

CALGARY HERALD: Scott Cruickshank reports Flames veteran defenseman Shane O’Brien, who’s been demoted to the minors, is hoping he’ll be dealt by the March trade deadline. O’Brien believes he still has much to offer an NHL team.

  1. O’Brien will get your team booked in Las Vegas for an end-of-the-season romp with the best deals at the classiest hotels! April dates are filling up fast, so don’t delay!

  2. It’s going to be a LONG two weeks

This is the time of year when USA College season ends and non drafted 20+ year old’s are available.
Anybody see any top ten lists yet ?

  3. I would love to see Stewart in a Sens uniform. Big body who could play with Spezza… maybe help Spezza get out of his funk.

    • I cant see the Blues taking a D man from the Sens for Stewart. The Blues have the best top 6 in the league, depth and a pretty decent number of good prospects on D.

Peitroagelo, Shattenkirk, Bouwmeester, Jackman, Polak Leopold, Colaiacovo Cole etc. I dont see how Stewart doesn’t have more value than yet another 6-7 depth type d-man from the Sens.

      • Schticky…I was thinking the same thing, no way the Blues need D. They will most likely want another forward in return for Stewart.

        • Even more confusing is why a team that has offensive issues would consider trading one of their top 6 for a D man. These are both teams that need or would like to add to their top 6 I cant see them as trade partners. Moulson or Cammilleri seem like more realistic targets for the Sens.

  4. No Bruce. Quickly scribbling a couple of the names in play, along with Murray’s name does not an article make. Bryan will be SELLING…not buying. He needs picks. Why would he pick up another slow footed streaky scoring winger. He already got one with Ryan. You really think he’s gonna go “strike 2″ with Moulson and hope there will be chemistry with Spezza. And what’s he got his nephew wants? One of those 8 defensemen? Unlikely. Lazar, Stone or Prince will start most conversations.

The rumor fabrication really needs to stop.

    • Rumors are a form fabrication… thats what this site is all about isnt it?

    • It is clear by your comments that you didn’t read the article or Spector’s comments or just decided to throw them together. The comment regarding defenseman was linked to Stewart and St. Louis as a place they MIGHT look, not that they will. Bobby Ryan is a great winger who has no problem fitting in on the top line and clearly you know nothing about the Senators or rumours. If Murray added Moulson and/or Stewart they would be an improved team (they WILL be buyers they have no need for MORE prospects).

Chris Stewart coming in could make Mark Stone expendable and I think the Senators should have no issue shipping Prince in a deal for Moulson. Curtis Lazar, Cody Ceci, Mark Borowiecki, and Matt Puempel should be the Senators four untouchable prospects. JPG, Stone, Prince, Hoffman, Grant, Da Costa, Lindberg, and Petersson should and could all be in play for the right deals.Combine them with Gryba, Phillips, Corvo, Condra, and Conacher from the big club and go out and move what you gotta move.

  5. Stewart MIGHT look good on 20 other teams why even mention it unless he’s fishing as per Garrioch usual.. Murray characteristically doesn’t over pay. Ever. None of those players you mentioned are known outside of Ottawa. Hence why Murray hasn’t been able to unload them already. I love Bobby Ryan, and that trade…and I love the fact he finally scored and got out of his slump(streaky) in that Nooner~Snoozer in Boston. I’m a season ticket holder. What team are you stuck in traffic after watching?

He’ll be selling. This isn’t the year.
I read Spector’s comments. Even the best can be fooled.
