Latest Senators, Oilers and Canucks News – August 27, 2011.

The Senators will need their veterans to step up this season…Predictions for Oilers sophomores Hall, Paajarvi and Eberle…The Canucks lose a key corporate sponser.

OTTAWA SENATORS.

OTTAWA CITIZEN: Wayne Scanlan noted all eyes this season will be upon the Senators young players, but they’ll need help from a returning group of veteran players expected to have bounce-back seasons, like Sergei Gonchar, Daniel Alfredsson, Milan Michalek, Chris Phillips and Chris Neil.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: For the Senators to have a chance at icing a competitive roster this season, they’ll need most of these guys to stay healthy and to improve over last season’s performances. Alfredsson and Gonchar will be the two key players of that group.

EDMONTON OILERS

EDMONTON JOURNAL: David Staples compiles predictions from around the league for Oilers sophomores Taylor Hall, Magnus Paajarvi and Jordan Eberle, noting none of them are expected to reach 70 points this season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It’s tough to predict how players and teams will perform over the course of an 82-game season. Of these three, I believe Hall stands the best chance to reach 70 points this season. Perhaps those three will surprise, but I believe the prognosticators will most likely be correct in their assessments.

VANCOUVER CANUCKS

VANCOUVER SUN: reports BC Ferries has abandoned their sponsorship agreement with the Vancouver Canucks.

“BC Ferries has been a sponsor of the Canucks for years, an agreement which includes ads along the boards and access to a corporate box the ferry corporation can use to entertain guests.

But the publicly owned ferry corporation is refusing to tell the public just how much money it spends on the sponsorship and seats.”

  1. I wonder if that sponsor leaving the Nucks means that now there will be another sponsor maybe in the line of swimwear, pools or spinal research.

I guess if you’re a rookie the best place to play in in Edmonton since everywhere else in the league 2nd yr players fall in the dreaded sophomore year slumps but hey, not in Edmonton, 70 pts each for their rookies!

  2. The ferry just doesn’t want to sink with the nucks…. Speaking of ferries ???
