Top five free agents the Senators should pursue, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ performance at the Worlds, Jets GM preparing for upcoming entry draft, and a Panthers blueliner wouldn’t mind signing with the Canucks.
OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch lists Zach Parise, Chris Kelly, Bryan Allen, David Jones and Jiri Hudler as the top five free agents the Senators should pursue.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: They have almost no chance of inking Parise. Kelly could return if the Bruins don’t re-sign him. Hudler would prefer to remain with the Wings but if he doesn’t the Senators would have competition trying to land him. They could have a good chance landing Jones or Allen, depending of course where they want to play and what offers they get.
EDMONTON SUN: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has had an up-and-down performance at the Worlds for Team Canada, but still managed to score four goals heading into the quarterfinal.
WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is making his preparations for the upcoming June Entry draft.
VANCOUVER SUN: Florida Panthers defenseman Jason Garrison would prefer to re-sign with his current team, but if he become a UFA wouldn’t mind signing with the Canucks, the team he cheered for growing up.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Canucks priorities are trading Roberto Luongo and adding more scoring depth at forward. If Garrison became available they might show some interest, but that’ll depend on if they have already addressed their priorities by then, how much Garrison seeks, and if GM Mike Gillis believes he’d be a good fit.
