The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed former NY Rangers defenseman Matt Gilroy to a one-year contract.

Spector’s Note: Salary details to follow. Gilroy was once considered a promising blueliner with the Rangers but didn’t reach expectations. Only 26, he’ll have a good opportunity to prove himself with the Lightning. In 58 games last season, Gilroy had 11 points and a plus-minus of 0, along with 14 PIMs and 39 hits. Not the most physical blueliner in the league…..The salary is $1 million.

I guess Mr. Yzerman woke up this morning, look and his blueline and said “Bruno Gervais on my team? I need to fix that!”
