Cam Janssen’s homophobic remarks in a recent interview provokes reaction from the blogosphere. Enjoy the best samplings, as well as commentaries on Shane Doan, the Islanders ongoing arena issue, Rick Nash, the Oilers defense, and more.

BACKHAND SHELF: Ellen Etchingham with a spirited smack-down of Cam Janssen’s homophobic remarks, whilst wondering why goons like him are lionized for their supposed toughness (when in actual fact they contribute virtually nothing) while skilled players like Alexander Semin are considered  ”cancers”. Cam Charron, meanwhile, examines Janssen’s stats to prove just how worthless he actually is to the Devils.

Janssen’s homophobic remarks in a recent interview spark outrage among NHL followers.

PUCK DADDY: Ryan Lambert also weighs in on Janssen’s remarks, hoping all players continue to speak their minds, but if their minds are clouded with dumbass bigotry, they shouldn’t be surprised if they get called out for it.

IN LOU WE TRUST: John Fischer suggests Janssen’s interview proves he’s more than just a terrible hockey player, he’s may also be just terrible.

HOCKEY INDEPENDENT: John Alfonso Iadevaia believes Janssen’s remarks should be a red flag for the NHL, a signal to crack down on these kind of players and attitudes.

HOCKEY WILDERNESS: Janssen revealed himself to be a stereotype.

JEWELS FROM THE CROWN: A Kings fan puts Janssen’s miserable attempt at trash-talking the Kings in the proper perspective.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I said all I wanted to say about Janssen over five years ago following his cheapshot on then-Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle. His recent comments provided no special insight for me as to his character. As I noted on Twitter, what did you expect? He’s Cam Janssen!

HOWLINHOCKEY.COM/NEBULOUS VERBOSITY: Two opinions suggesting Shane Doan ignore an Arizona Republic sportswriter calling for him to leave while he still can, and finish his career with the Coyotes.

THE CHECKING LINE/CBS NEW YORK: Rob McGowan and B.D. Gallof on the latest attempt to build a new arena for the Islanders.

WINGING IT IN MOTOWN: Rick Nash might be the last player to pick-and-choose where he gets dealt, depending on what’s in the next CBA.

THE COPPER & BLUE: Alan Hull calls on the Oilers to make a trade to address their need for a quality defenseman.

PENSION PLAN PUPPETS: A disgruntled Leafs fan sets his anguish to music.

What do you think of the respect level among players today as opposed to five years ago? It’s easy to judge one player with a shady history (see also: Matt Cooke, Todd Bertuzzi, Claude Lemieux, etc.), but there’s another several hundred players besides Janssen in the league.

I wish we had more “goons” like George Parros and Mike Rupp: good teammates who fight because that’s what’s expected of them, and fine people off the ice too.

Geez, I’m sorry guys. I listened to the Janssen interview, and being a long-time player myself, I don’t see what all the fuss is about. He sounded like a lot of guys in the locker room. It was the commentator that brought up the fat broad stuff, not Janssen. Yeah, don’t condone trying to hurt someone with their head down, but I’ve seen Scott Stevens and Larry Robinson, two of my favorites of all time, rock some players, and that’s what you do to keep people on their toes…no elbows to the head, just solid checks. I admit Parros is a much more class act, but people are reaching a bit here to find controversy where there isn’t much…
