Should the Kings allow Drew Doughty to rush more?…Red Wings fans don’t like possibility of Steve Yzerman not playing at next year’s Winter Classic Alumni game…Three players the Capitals might target at the trade deadline…Suggesting the Flames move Jarome Iginla after this season…Deadline “Do’s” and “Don’ts” for the Toronto Maple Leafs…A columnist suggests the Stars should shop Brenden Morrow…When fans and media cross the line.

Kings should let Doughty rush the puck more.

MAKE WAY FOR THE KINGS: Ryan Cowley suggests a possible solution for the Kings offensive woes is to allow Drew Doughty to rush the puck more. I agree. Look, Doughty ain’t Bobby Orr, but he’s among the few defensemen in the league who has tremendous offensive skills. And as we’ve seen in the past, rushing defensemen who are also strong in their own zone are very useful to aid a team’s offensive attack. Right, Ray BourqueScott Niedermayer and Larry Robinson?

NIGHTMARE ON HELM STREET: Some Red Wings fans aren’t happy with the thought Steve Yzerman might not play in the Alumni Game in next year’s Winter Classic. OK, I understand they’d love to see him there, but he also gave you the best years of his life, and you had your opportunity to honor him at his jersey retirement. If he decides not to participate, respect his wishes.

THE HOCKEY WRITERS: James Wrabel Jr. suggests the Capitals may target Mike Ribeiro, Steve Ott and Travis Moen at the trade deadline. At this point, I’d say they’d stand a better chance of landing Moen than the other two.

FLAME FOR THOUGHT: Dave Church loves Jarome Iginla, but believes it’s for the best if the Flames try to trade him in the off-season, that they owe it to Iginla to move him to a contender. Suppose Iginla doesn’t want to go? Why not respect his wishes if he wants to stay? After all these years, I believe the right to choose his future is what’s owed him. If he feels that future is with the Flames, respect it.

RED LIGHT DISTRICT HOCKEY BLOG:  Ryan Porth lists the “do’s” and “don’ts” for the Maple Leafs at this year’s trade deadline. I think the first one listed is the best one.

NBC SPORTS PRO HOCKEY TALK: Mike Halford noted Mac Engel of the Star-Telegram believes it’s possible the Stars could consider trading captain Brenden Morrow. Unfortunately for Engel, he overlooked the fact Morrow’s on IR with a neck injury that’s been nagging him for most of the season. Even if the Stars were to shop him, they might not find much interest in damaged goods.

ALLHABS.NET: When Canadiens fans moan this summer over how the Canadiens can’t attract top free agent talent, they might want to refer to this blog post.

  1. It’s Dave Church on the FFT post, but I appreciate the link (and counter-thought) more in any case!

  2. My apologies, Dave, I’ve corrected it. Cheers.
