Evgeni Malkin’s father claims the Dallas Stars made a contract offer to his son, the injury risk of preseason play, ten reasons for Avalanche fans to be excited about the upcoming season, the luck of the New Jersey Devils and more.
DEFENDING BIG D: Brandon Worley reported Evgeni Malkin’s father apparently told a Russian newspaper his son rejected a contract offer from the Dallas Stars in June, which would violate the NHL CBA as Malkin was still under contract with the Penguins.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Either something was lost in translation, or perhaps Malkin’s father was engaging in a bit of bullshitting to expound upon his son’s loyalty to the Penguins. I just don’t believe Stars GM Jim Nill, who spent two decades with Detroit Red Wings management, would do that.

MILE HIGH HOCKEY: Colorado Avalanche blogger Cheryl Bradley lists ten reasons she’s excited about the upcoming season, which I daresay a number of her fellow Avs fans share.
BACKHAND SHELF: Daniel Wagner examines the role luck played in the New Jersey Devils recent seasons.
