THE GLOBE & MAIL: Dave Ebner reports the Vancouver Canucks are set to begin interviews with potential general managers.  The top candidate could be Boston Bruins assistant GM Jim Benning.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Ben Kuzma wonders if the Canucks could replace current head coach John Tortorella with former Nashville Predators bench boss Barry Trotz, while Jason Botchford believes Tortorella’s current twisting in the wind over his future is of his own doing.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: A new GM could hire their own head coach. Still, the fact the Canucks fired now-former GM Mike Gillis instead of Tortorella suggests they’re seeking a GM who can work well with Torts. 

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Jonathan Willis believes the Oilers acquisition of David Perron last summer was a rare brilliant moment for the club.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Oilers certainly won that deal. The player they gave up, Magnus Paajarvi, is still struggling to make it as an NHL player.

WINNIPEG SUN: A majority of Jets fans polled by the Sun prefers the club dump Ondrej Pavelec as their starter.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff still believes Pavelec can become a quality starting goalie.
