EDMONTON SUN/EDMONTON JOURNAL: The Oilers recently announced the hiring of hockey analytics blogger  and Toronto-based lawyer Tyler Dellow as part of their hockey operations department. It’s believed Oilers coach Dallas Eakins was behind the hiring. Dellow  will conduct his evaluation of the Oilers from Toronto.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Somewhere, Steve Simmons’ head exploded. Dellow garnered a reputation as a respected, though sometimes abrasive, pioneer of hockey analytics. While his critics will root for his failure, his hiring by the Oilers is another significant step forward for adherents of advanced stats.

THE GLOBE AND MAIL: Florida Panthers top pick Aaron Ekblad believes no one is guaranteed a roster spot on this year’s Canadian junior team. Ekblad was part of last season’s team, which finished fourth at the World Junior Hockey Championships.

CALGARY SUN: The Flames have reached an agreement with the Colorado Eagles as their new ECHL affiliate. The Flames were affiliated with the Alaska Aces, which last season won the ECHL title.

TVASPORTS: has unveiled their French schedule for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

  1. if infinite top first round picks can’t save the oilers, maybe advanced stats can!

  2. Dellow is cream of the crop, going to miss reading his stuff, his twitter mentions and most of all Simmons shouting and sounding like a madman when Dellow mentioned Grabovski…classic. Should be another good step for the Oilers. McHockey will be missed.
