Looking at some issues arising from P.K. Subban filing for arbitration, Flames re-sign Ben Hanowski, plus the latest on the Canucks and Maple Leafs.

Will P.K. Subban & the Canadiens reach an agreement before his arbitration hearing?

Will P.K. Subban & the Canadiens reach an agreement before his arbitration hearing?

LA PRESSE: Marc Antoine Gagnon looks at eight issues arising from P.K. Subban filing for arbitration. Gagnon doesn’t consider it a bad thing as it can  bring about a settlement on a new contract more quickly, rather than allowing negotiations to drag into training camp. He also doesn’t believe the recent new deals for Chicago Blackhawks stars Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane will have any bearing upon Subban’s negotiations.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: While some Canadiens fans are nervous over the prospect Subban could end up going before an arbiter, I believe the two sides will get a deal in place before his August 1 hearing.

CALGARY SUN: The Flames re-signed left wing Ben Hanowski to a one-year, tw0-way deal.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Tony Gallagher acknowledges the Canucks have lots of promising prospects, but wonders how many of them will actually make it to the NHL.

TORONTO SUN: Maple Leafs 2014 first rounder William Nylander flashed some talent during this week’s prospects camp.
