Cody Franson & the Leafs remain far apart in contract talks.

SPORTSNET: Elliotte Friedman reports the Toronto Maple Leafs and Cody Franson remain far apart in contract negotiations. Franson is seeking $4.2 million per season while the Leafs are offering $2 million. Franson’s arbitration hearing is set for Monday.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The two sides can still negotiate and reach agreement before the hearing tomorrow. Given they’re that far apart, however, there’s not much time left to work out a deal. If it goes to arbitration, Franson will get a one-year deal taking him up to UFA status next summer.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Can Oilers coach Dallas Eakins bring out the best in Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on the attack?

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Canucks forward Zack Kassian will get another opportunity with another coach to evolve into a big-game player.

OTTAWA CITIZEN: If you’ve got $1.7 million, Jason Spezza’s former Ottawa home can be yours.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: The Jets have signed forwards Eric O’Dell, Patrice Cormier and John Albert to one-year, two-way contracts.

  1. I am sure the rumour of Franson being the return for Josh Gorges does not bode well for a contract agreement between the Leafs and Franson….not to mention the huge salary demand/offer gap….

    • He will be signed before arbitration….then moved probably.
