Uncertainty over Daniel Alfredsson’s future, Dustin Byfuglien files motion to dismiss case against him, Oilers GM continues to build from within, and the Maple Leafs sign Keith Aucoin.

OTTAWA SUN: Don Brennan puts the blame Daniel Alfredsson’s “dilly-dallying” over his future plans on league commissioner Gary Bettman, for raising concerns over another lockout.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The possibility certainly exists that another lockout could push Alfredsson into retirement. Hopefully, it doesn’t come to that.

Byfuglien seeks dismissal of boating charges.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien has filed a motion to have charges of impaired boating dismissed, claiming his rights were violated on the night last summer he was arrested.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: We should know soon if this motion by Byfuglien’s attorney pans out or if the trial proceeds.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Oilers GM Steve Tambellini continues to build the club from within, while ensuring he’ll have the cap space to re-sign his key young players when they’re due for new deals.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: He’ll need that cap space. Eberle and Hall are in the final season of their entry level contracts, Nugent-Hopkins seems well on his way to stardom, and if Yakupov and Schultz turn into the stars they’re projected to be, they’re going to be in line for huge raises once their entry-level deals expire.

WASHINGTON POST: The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed former Capitals center Keith Aucoin to a one-year, two-way contract.

The old “rights violation”. Basically, it’s the “I was caught breaking the law, but my rights are violated so it shouldn’t count”. And that’s what slimy lawyers do.

    Slimy lawyers and slimy clients.

From what I have heard, I think Alfredsson’s decision to noncommitt is pretty selfish. Either he wants to play for the Sens or not – if not, let them move on and don’t leave em hanging. On the other hand I think the Sens should take the iniative and move on.

Does anybody think that maybe Alfredson is seriously thinking about wether he wants to put up for another season for the 1 million in salary he will make next season.

    Praise Alfie!
