NHL Canadian Corner – July 27, 2012.

The Senator prepare to buy out Bobby Butler, the Oilers re-sign two restricted free agents, and today is the deadline for Jets fans to maintain their spot on tickets waiting list.

Senators expected to buy out Butler.

OTTAWA CITIZEN: The Senators have placed forward Bobby Butler on waivers as a precursor to buying out the remainder of his contract. Butler will fall under the “under-25″ rule, meaning the buyout would be at one-third (rather than two-thirds) his remaining salary over twice the remaining term.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Butler’s performance declined noticeably last season after a promising debut the season prior. It’ll be interesting to see if another NHL team takes a chance with him.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: The Oilers have re-signed RFAs Alex Plante and Chris VandeVeld to one-year deals.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: Today is the deadline for Jets fans to keep their spot on the team’s season ticket waiting list.

  1. Any news on Kane and the jets? That offer has been n the table or what 2 weeks? Is it really money or were those rumors a while back about him wanting out maybe true?

  2. Butler was given plenty of opportunities to play but seemed to lose his confidence this past season. Perhaps a different team and circumstances will help him get his game back.

  3. I live in Winnipeg (though not a Jets fan), and I can say there is absolutely no news….I mean not a rumour, not a hint, not a guess what is going on with Kane. The local scribes are still trying to curry managements favour since coming back so they are reluctant to put anything negative public, if there is something negative.

I absolutely agree, something seems amiss. They sign Enstrom long term, but refuse to disclose details, and as you stated, the Kane camp has had the offer for 2 weeks and not even a hint of a counter offer…..
