EDMONTON SUN: The Oilers are expected to welcome former Hockey Canada executive Bob Nicholson into their organization today.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: David Staples speculates Nicholson could become the Oilers new chief executive officer, but Kevin Lowe might step down and even leave the organization.

NHL.COM: The Oilers yesterday signed center Steve Pinizzotto to a one-year contract.

OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch examines the reasons why Senators captain Jason Spezza has requested a trade. The pressure of being the subject of intense focus from fans and media could be behind Spezza’s decision.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Whatever the reason, the Senators now have a reputation for driving away their best players. Dany Heatley also demanded a trade several years ago, then there was last summer’s bungled handling of Daniel Alfredsson’s contract talks.  They’ve also got an owner who’s rumored to meddle in management decisions. That doesn’t bode well for the futures of Senators stars Bobby Ryan and Erik Karlsson.
