Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin won’t tip his hand as to his offseason plans.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin is tight-lipped over his off-season plans for his club. While pleased that the Habs reached the Conference Final, but feels the club needs to mature to become a Cup contender. Bergevin offered no update on contract talks with Andrei Markov but said they’ll see what they can do to bring back captain Brian Gionta. He also praised up his  leaders like Carey Price, P.K. Subban (who’s expected to re-sign a lucrative, long-term contract extension), Josh Gorges and Max Pacioretty. Younger defensemen like Jarred Tinordi, Nathan Beaulieu and Greg Pateryn could play larger roles next season. The Canadiens have also granted permission to the Florida Panthers to speak with assistant coach Gerard Gallant regarding their vacant head coaching position.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It’ll be interesting to see if Markov returns. If he doesn’t it’ll put pressure on Bergevin to replace him via free agency or trade.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens mascot Youppi! made good on his wager with The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon by wearing a Rangers jersey throughout Montreal.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: My favorite is Youppi! riding a mechanical bull.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Jonathan Willis wonders if the Oilers should try to reacquire Magnus Paajarvi from the St. Louis Blues. They shipped Paajarvi to the Blues as part of the return for David Perron.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Bringing back Paajarvi doesn’t strike me as a move which will improve the Oilers.

VANCOUVER SUN: Canucks defenseman Andrew Alberts continues to be plagued by post-concussion symptoms which threaten to end his NHL career.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: A look at which prospect the Jets could pick with the ninth overall pick in this year’s draft.
