LA PRESSE: Francois Gagnon reports Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin restated his support for, and belief in, goaltender Carey Price, expecting the netminder to be a key part of the Habs future.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If Price farts, some in the overwrought Montreal sports media (Gagnon being the exception) interprets it as a sign he could be traded. Despite his inconsistency, Price remains among the league’s top goaltenders, and Bergevin wants to help him improve his game.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: With the Oilers expected to cut ties with Shawn Horcoff, David Staples makes the case for Taylor Hall to take over the captaincy.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I don’t blame Staples for speculating over Horcoff’s successor as captain, but it’s rather awkward doing so before Horcoff has been traded or bought out. Still, if Staples didn’t mention it, someone else would.

NBC SPORTS PRO HOCKEY TALK: Winnipeg Jets star Evander Kane took to Twitter to voice his unhappiness over missing the playoffs, but vows next season will be a different story.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It had better be, or there could be some changes for the Jets (both the roster and behind the bench) by next summer.

TORONTO STAR: Kevin McGran interviewed Maple Leafs backup Ben Scrivens for his take on reducing the size of goalie pads and the depth of the nets.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE/CALGARY SUN: The Vancouver Canucks will be hosting a prospects tournament (Young Stars tournament) from September 5-9 in Penticton, BC. “Prospects from the Flames, Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, San Jose Sharks and Winnipeg Jets will square off in a nine-game event.”
