NHL Canadian Corner – March 16, 2012.

Flames rookie Baertschi on a roll…Doubts growing again over Luongo…Anderson return for Senators by next Tuesday?…Leafs blank downLightning…Jets tired of talking about woeful road record…Bourque frustrating Canadiens coach…Oilers hope to play “spoiler” against Flames…

CALGARY HERALD: Emergency call-up Sven Baertschi doesn’t know how much longer he’ll be with the Flames but is making the most of it, potting his third goal in four games as Calgary beat the Phoenix Coyotes 4-1.

Luongo hearing more "boos" than "Loos" of late.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Roberto Luongo’s recent struggles once again raises doubts of fans and critics.

OTTAWA SUN: Injured Senators goalie Craig Anderson could return from his finger injury as early as next Tuesday.

TORONTO SUN: The Maple Leafs refuse to “tank”, blanking downing the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1. They also found out yesterday winger Nikolai Kulemin is likely out for the season with a broken finger.

WINNIPEG SUN: The Jets are tired of talking about their woeful (11-19-4) road record. Here’s a thought: use that as motivation to win more road games, and you won’t have to talk about it as much.

CANOE.CA: Montreal Canadiens head coach Randy Cunneyworth is unhappy with the inconsistent play of winger Rene Bourque, a criticism Calgary fans and pundits know only too well.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: The Oilers are hoping to play “spoiler” to the Calgary Flames playoff hopes when the two clubs meet tonight.

  1. Ummm, Lightning got a late goal. Leafs didn’t “blank” them. Otherwise, carry on. :)

  2. 1. MTL knew that Bourque was inconsistent when they got him, wasn’t a mystery.
    2. Baertschi keeps playing this way he could stay with the club. He brings some much needed offense to the Flames.
    3. Luongo needs to get out of Vancouver. He can’t play a bad game or he gets roasted and he lets the pressure get to him and it hurts his game. He isn’t that goalie who holds you in games as often anymore.
    4. I wonder what will happen with Anderson back. Bishop has looked like a boss out there.

  3. @ JJB

Lu has been brutal of late. If it was only 1 game I don’t think people would be quite so worried. He is however no longer that goaltender who stole or kept close so many games for the panthers.

Anderson will take over the reins again. They might spit some games to get him back into it but bishop (or lehner (?) is going down. Be interesting to see which

  4. Luongo will be playing for the leafs next season. Book it.

  5. Yes, Bourque is inconsistent. We knew it when we got him. He replaced AK and freed up Cammy’s salary for next year. He is no less consistent than AK. In the meanwhile, Cunneyworth might want to think of complaining after he stops rotating lines like a Timbits team.

  6. Luongo has been greasy. Too many rebounds and lunging again. The fact is if it wasn’t for his contract Schneider might be the starter right now. When was the last time Schneider has lost a game for Van? My point exactly.

Luongo doesn’t have it mentally. Mike Gillis makes bold moves to improve his club. Does it not make sense to deal the older goalie who might not be as good? I’d rate them the same just because of Lou’s experience.

Tough decisions will have to be made. Here’s a better question WTF is Raymond playing with the twins for?

My prediction Luongo + Raymond to Tamba Bay in exchange for Ryan Malone and a 1st round pick.

  7. @JJB BAertshi can not stay up he is an emergency recall from the WHL, he has to be returned to his JR club…wish he could stay though
