VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Ben Bishop made 25 saves as the Tampa Bay Lightning held off a third period rally by the Canucks to eke out a 4-3 win. Alex Burrows scored twice for the Canucks.
WINNIPEG SUN: David Backes scored twice in the third period to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 3-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The losses move the Canucks five points out of playoff contention and the Jets six points back. These two clubs are running out of time to stage a late-season rally.
CALGARY SUN: Flames center Matt Stajan has rejoined the club following the death of his infant child.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: My best wishes to Stajan and his wife in their efforts to overcome their tragic loss.
MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens goalie Carey Price is focused on the Colorado Avalanche’s scorers as well as regaining his timing. Price will be in goal tonight for the Habs as they face off against the Avs.
TORONTO STAR: Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier is listed as day-to-day with a groin strain.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Fortunately for the Leafs, they have James Reimer to fill in while Bernier recovers.
OTTAWA CITIZEN: The Senators are trying to focus on each game as it comes and not on the standings.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Senators are currently seven points out of playoff contention in the Eastern Conference. Like the Jets and Canucks, they’re running out of time to gain ground in the standings.
EDMONTON SUN: The Oilers are trying to overcome a weak road power play.
