NHL Canadian Corner – March 30, 2014

Canadiens defeat Panther, Leafs drop their eighth straight, Canucks fall to the Ducks, Jets crowned by the Kings, updates on Clarke MacArthur and Ryan Jones and the latest on the Flames.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Max Pacioretty scored twice (including his 35th goal of the season) as the Canadiens downed the Florida Panthers 4-1.

Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul skates away dejectedly as the Red Wings celebrate their 4-2 win over the Leafs.

TORONTO SUN: The Maple Leafs suffered their eighth consecutive defeat, falling 4-2 to the Detroit Red Wings.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE:  The Canucks playoffs hopes took another hit, falling 5-1 to the Anaheim Ducks.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: The Los Angeles Kings drove another nail in the Jets playoff coffin, downing the Winnipeggers 4-2.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It’s looking increasingly likely the Habs will be the only Canadian team in this year’s playoffs. They’re sitting second in the Atlantic Division, thirteen points over the fading Leafs. Barring a miracle, the Leafs are done. The two teams holding wild card berths (Columbus and Detroit) have two games in hand. The Canucks are now five points out of wild card contention in the West, while the Jets are nine points back.

OTTAWA CITIZEN: Senators forward Clarke MacArthur hopes to use the remainder of this season to do what he can to help keep his friends on the team around.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Oilers forward Ryan Jones (knee) is out for the season.

CALGARY HERALD: The Flames face their upcoming five-game Eastern road trip.

  1. Carlyle is likely done as their coach and with the team apparently self destructing, the only point of interest left for this team is that they may get to establish a new franchise record for consecutive losses; which according to Wiki is 10 and with 6 games left, its possible

  2. Go Habs! We need to back up the money truck to Vanek this summer, to good to let leave without a fight. Once we get Prust, weise, gorges back we will be even better/deeper.

  3. Of coarse, nothing here about Helm’s first hat trick!?!?!

    • Probably because it’s helm and he did it against a defense-last team, aka the Leafs.

      • I shticky

lol lets see when he gets his next one.
