Milan Michalek joins elite company…Evander Kane honored by former WHL team…Leafs run out of gas against Penguins…Canucks hoping to learn from recent scoring slump…Flames lack finish…Canadiens and Oilers to square off.

Michalek gets unusual honor.

OTTAWA SUN: Senators forward Milan Michalek joined Mario Lemieux and Marcel Dionne as the only players in NHL history to score the second and third goals of a hat trick into an empty net. Michalek did it in Tuesday’s 7-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Michalek’s performance this season has been overshadowed by those of teammates Erik Karlsson and Jason Spezza, but he reached the 30-goal mark for the first time in his career, and could finish with 40 goals by season’s end.

WINNIPEG SUN: Evander Kane was honored by the Vancouver Giants, his former WHL team, in a ceremony at the Pacific Coliseum on Wednesday. Kane and the Jets square off against the Vancouver Canucks tonight.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: The slumping Canucks are hoping to learn from their current offensive slump to get themselves back on track.

TORONTO SUN: The battered Maple Leafs lost two more players to injury (Cody Franson, Mike Brown) in their 3-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Having lost Joffrey Lupul and Colby Armstrong to injuries in their last game, the depleted Leafs are now teetering on the brink of falling out of the playoff race.

CALGARY SUN: The Flames have been lacking finish in recent games, opening the scoring in their last nine games, but winning only three of them.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: The Canadiens and Oilers square off in Edmonton tonight.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Oilers center Sam Gagner can’t wait for the Oilers to return to the playoffs, something they’ve yet to do in his five seasons with the club.

Leafs are “on the brink” of falling out of the playoff race??? That statement who have been more apropos perhaps during loss 5 or 6 of this horrendous stretch they’ve gone through. There is nothing that suggests the Leafs have the ability to turn things around and make a run. I’ve watched every Leaf game this season and they have completely checked out. They’ll show up, they’ll skate but they simply do not have their hearts in the game because they know their season is done as well. Poor defence, poor goaltending and lack of scoring is not a good combination for winning hockey.

    Dany who?

The Leafs would have to go something like 12-3-0 in order to make the playoffs. That’s a tall order for the best of teams during a season best hot streak, an impossible order for this Leafs team that still have far too many holes to be competitive over an 82 game season. I daresay this summer may well define Burke’s tenure in Toronto and whether or not he stays on as GM past next season.

Lol Billy Barou. Love the name, isn’t that Judge Smails putter name from Caddyshack? Hilarious!

As far as a team checking out, The Canadiens checked out weeks ago with the exception of Price, Gorges, Subban, Cole, Patches, and DD. it’s painful to watch and I’m at the point where I’m feeling sorry for Price. More than half the team doesn’t give a shit and hangs him out to dry every game. Need a coach who is going to fight to the bitter end and this group of guys definitely needs a yelling, punishing coach. The only bright side is a possible 2nd overall pick.

I’m not to sure on the whole burkes job being in jeopardy thing. If you take a look at the depth in this organization from when he got here to now it is miles ahead. Now you can debate the whole kessel trade and how where they might be with sequin and Hamilton compared to kessel, but you can also look at the other acquisitions Burke has made. From Ashton, colborne, Gardiner, those are 3 first round picks that we didn’t have before. And who did he give up beachimen, kaberle, and Aulie who none seemed to work out here and it will be determined how Aulie does. Not saying any of those 3 he aquired will work out but there is a better chance. This season did SUCK. But I think we are in a better position tha. Our standings show. Especially with the 4th overall pick we will get lol.

The Leafs season is over..stick a fork in them. it would be nice though if they could at least get a lottery pick

  7. Innovator says:

With all the injuries they have just been hit with it is not out of the realm of possibility that Minnesota (1pt back), NYI (2pt) and Carolina (2pt) can pass them. The currently are in the 7th spot but could possibly fall to the 4th spot.

I just hope we keep sliding and that we get a lottery pick draft some pro star talent to give us more hope for the future!
