NHL Canadian Corner – May 12, 2014

Updates on the Canadiens-Bruins series, plus the latest on David Perron and Sven Baertschi.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Despite facing elimination in Game 6, the Canadiens remain confident they can defeat the Boston Bruins. It’s the first time in this series the Habs have trailed the Bruins.

The Canadiens need Thomas Vanek to step up in Game 6 against the Bruins.

The Canadiens need Thomas Vanek to step up in Game 6 against the Bruins.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If the Habs hope to win this game and ultimate the series, they need more production from their scoring lines, especially from Thomas Vanek, Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais. The Habs top line down the stretch, they’ve been almost silent in this series.

CSNNE.COM: Boston Bruins forward Scott Thornton was fined over $2,800.00 for spraying Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban with water during Game 5 in Boston.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Wonder if Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist faces a similar fine for doing the same thing to Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby?

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Oilers forward David Perron recently pulled out of the World Championships owing to a hip injury.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I realize this is a week old but I overlooked this when it was originally reported.

CALGARY SUN: Flames prospect Sven Baertschi recently suffered a fractured rib playing for Switzerland at the World Championships.

  1. Funny, I just made $2800.00 selling junk in my garage sale this weekend. Peanuts.

  2. the difference is , thornton sprayed water on him during the middle of play.

  3. Agreed, Lyle! Other than the odd deflection goal, the Vanek, Pacioretty, Desharnais line has been pretty much invisible. Got to wonder how these guys can witness the heart and efforts of Gallagher, Subban, and a few others, and not be inspired by it enough to raise their own games. Getting a really good read on who the true leaders of this team will be going forward.

  4. All class those Bruins… maybe we need another lecture on how p00p doesn’t actually attract flies, and trailer parks aren’t full of trailer trash…
