VANCOUVER SUN: Iain MacIntyre reports new Canucks GM Jim Benning has a solid record for scouting and developing talent. Benning is expected to be introduced soon as the club’s new GM.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Ben Kuzma speculates over who Benning will hired as the Canucks’ new head coach. Ed Willes hopes Benning brings stability to the Canucks. Tony Gallagher fears Benning will follow the Bruins’ model, which will take too long.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Benning has a proven record for finding and developing young talent, which his predecessor did not. He has considerable front office experience and helped build the Bruins into a Cup champion and perennial contender. I believe he’s a great choice as their new GM. Canucks fans should be patient, as it will take time to rebuild their club into a Cup contender again, but Benning is the right person for the job.

    I agree that Jim Benning is an excellent choice as Vancouver’s new GM. He has a long track record in the front office.

    It will be interesting to see if Washington hires Don Sweeney, or if they go after Ray Shero, or perhaps Paul Fenton.

    In case anyone has forgotten. Ray Shero turned down the Boston GM job to accept the Pittsburgh GM job.
