Daniel Briere and Alexei Emelin could soon return to Canadiens lineup, updates on Ilya Bryzgalov, Colin Greening, Sean Monahan and Paul Ranger, plus the latest on the Canucks and Jets.
MONTREAL CANADIENS: announced injured Habs Daniel Briere (concussion) and Alexei Emelin (knee surgery) could soon to action, perhaps by this weekend at the latest.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Briere was a dud in his debut with the Canadiens before his injury, but with David Desharnais playing poorly he should be an upgrade at center. They really missed Emelin’s physical play so his return should provide their defense with a significant boost.
EDMONTON OILERS: reports recently-signed goalie Ilya Bryzgalov discussed his conditioning stint in the AHL with the Oklahoma City Barons.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Oilers intend to have Bryzgalov play a few games in the minors before calling him up. The veteran goalie last played an NHL game back in April so it’s a wise decision to give him a couple of tune-up games in the AHL.
OTTAWA SUN: Senators forward Colin Greening is still searching for his first goal of the season.
CALGARY SUN: Flames rookie Sean Monahan is mired in a four-game scoreless slump.
TORONTO STAR: Maple Leafs defenseman Paul Ranger is readjusting to life in the NHL after spending four seasons away from the league for personal reasons.
VANCOUVER SUN: After going 1-2-1 in their recent four-game road trip, the Canucks are in need of a tune-up.
WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: The Jets need to improve their power-play, which is the worst in the league.
