Recaps of Thursday’s games featuring Canadian NHL teams, plus the latest on Jason Spezza,  Sean Monahan and Morgan Rielly.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Former Canadiens captain Saku Koivu received lengthy standing ovations from the Montreal faithful in what could be his final game at the Bell Centre, as the Canadiens downed Koivu and the Anaheim Ducks 4-1.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It’s doubtful Koivu will have his number 11 retired by the Canadiens (something which is reserved for the club’s top Hall of Fame players) but there’s no question he remains as beloved by Habs fans as those greats of the past.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: For the second straight time, Roberto Luongo out-dueled former teammate Cory Schneider as the Canucks edged the New Jersey Devils 3-2 in a shootout.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Luongo has, for the most part, silenced his critics in Vancouver with his solid play so far this season.

CALGARY SUN: The Flames were crushed 5-1 by the Dallas Stars. One piece of good news for Flames fans is promising center Sean Monahan will not be returned to his junior club.

WINNIPEG SUN: Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec refused to see the positive in yet another overtime loss as his club fell 3-2 to the Nashville Predators.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Another turnover leading to a goal once again proved costly for the Jets, who continue to struggle with their defensive consistency.

EDMONTON SUN: Jordan Eberle, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov were a combined -4 as the Oilers fell 4-1 to the Washington Capitals.

OTTAWA SUN: Senators captain Jason Spezza has been the club’s best player early this season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Spezza is not only wearing the captaincy well, he’s making an early push to crack Team Canada’s Olympic roster.

TORONTO SUN: The Maple Leafs have decided not to return defenseman Morgan Rielly to his junior team.
