NHL Canadian Corner – Saturday, March 30, 2013.

Recap of Friday’s Blue Jackets-Flames game, plus the latest on Jason Spezza, Jason Garrison, Zach Bogosian, Brandon Prust, Magnus Paajarvi & Jake Gardiner.

COLUMBUS DISPATCH/CALGARY HERALD: The Blue Jackets scored four times in the second period, going on to down the Calgary Flames 6-4.

Setback for Spezza.

Setback for Spezza.

OTTAWA CITIZEN: Jason Spezza’s recovery from back surgery is taking longer than expected, meaning he could miss the remainder of the regular season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: There was talk of Spezza returning in late-March or early-April. Looks like the earliest the Sens could get him back is the first round of the playoffs. And yes, they’ll make it into the playoffs.

VANCOUVER SUN: Left-handed shot Jason Garrison is easing the Canucks concerns for a right-side defenseman.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: Defenseman Zach Bogosian is emerging as a leader on and off the ice for the Jets.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens forward Brandon Prust, who’s missed the past two weeks with a shoulder injury, is expected back into the lineup today in their game against the Rangers.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I daresay facing his former team also gave Prust additional motivation.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Magnus Paajarvi’s great attitude has helped him deal with adversity in his NHL career.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Paajarvi has been frequently mentioned as trade bait, but his improved play of late could keep him in Edmonton.

TORONTO STAR: Jake Gardiner needs to improve his defensive play if he hopes to earn a roster spot with the Maple Leafs.
