Recaps of preseason games involving the Maple Leafs, Senators, Jets and Canadiens, plus updates on Daniel Sedin, Michael Frolik and more.

TORONTO STAR: Nazem Kadri scored “a highlight reel goal” as the Maple Leafs edged the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 in preseason play.

OTTAWA SUN: Goals by Bobby Ryan and Milan Michalek powered the Senators to a 3-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets. Erik Karlsson had two assists for the Senators.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: The Canadiens, with nine prospects in their lineup,  dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the Buffalo Sabres.

VANCOUVER SUN: Canucks forward Daniel Sedin hopes to rebound from two “disappointing” seasons by putting more focus on scoring this season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: As always, the Canucks offense will be powered by Daniel and brother Henrik. If Sedin reaches or exceeds the 40-goal mark this season it’ll certainly bolster the club’s playoff hopes.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: New Jets forward Michael Frolik has shown considerable promise in preseason play.

EDMONTON SUN: New Oilers coach Dallas Eakins has removed much of the memorabilia from the club’s championship years from the dressing room. “We have moved some pictures and some plaques and some things and we’re going to put them out for our fans to enjoy, but it’s important for these players that this is their dressing room”, Eakins said.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: This could upset some purists or Oilers  alumni, but I understand why Eakins is doing it, hoping to shake things up and change the vibe in the room.  It’s not the same as the Leafs president suggesting removing photographs honoring the team’s history from throughout the building.

CALGARY HERALD: Forward Blair Jones is hoping to play his way onto the Flames roster this season.
