Injuries mounting for the Senators in preseason, Brian Gionta ready for the start of the season, the Leafs goalie battle is too close to call, David Perron is lighting it up in preseason for the Oilers, Team Canada’s Olympic jersey’s may have been leaked, and much more.

OTTAWA CITIZEN: The Senators entered Wednesday’s preseason tilt against the Montreal Canadiens missing Jason Spezza and Craig Anderson, and left the game (a 5-2 Senators win) with Bobby Ryan, Erik Karlsson, Patrick Wiercioch and Erik Condra banged up.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Spezza’s and Anderson’s absence were precautionary, while Ryan, Karlsson, Wiercioch and Condra aren’t expected to miss any time. Still, for a Senators team which last season battled through a rash of injuries to several key players, the health of the roster remains a concern this season.

LA PRESSE: Montreal Canadiens captain Brian Gionta will return to action on Thursday (tonight) when the Canadiens (in their final preseason game) face off against the Ottawa Senators. Gionta underwent biceps surgery during the off-season.

TORONTO SUN: Preseason has seemingly resolved little as James Reimer and Jonathan Bernier jockey for the role of Maple Leafs starting goaltender.

David Perron has had a strong preseason.

David Perron has had a strong preseason.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Competition between two talented, healthy, hungry young goaltenders is the kind of problem a team wants to have.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: New Oilers forward David Perron has lit it up in the preseason with five goals and an assist in four games.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If he can carry that over into the regular season the Oilers offense could be lethal.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Former NY Rangers turned Canucks coach John Tortorella will face off against his old team, coached by former Canucks bench boss Alain Vigneault, as the two clubs square off tonight in New York.

CALGARY HERALD: A middling preseason could prove costly to Sven Baertschi’s hopes of becoming a Flames regular this season.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: The Jets are still determining their final roster for the regular season.

CBC.CA: Has Team Canada’s three jerseys for the upcoming Sochi Winter Olympics been leaked?

SPECTOR’S NOTE: A better question is why anyone really gives a damn.

  1. Ottawa looks REALY GOOD !!

Tim Thomas will steal major games for the Panthers closing the playoff gap in that confrence …LEAFS better beware as the 8 spot is up for grabs and be had by any team !!

    Reimer – Bernier
The only people causing a goalie controversy is the press….other than that we have quite possibly the best tandem in the NHL right now which both will play about 40 games each in the end and could possibly be the wild card to the Leafs successful season …IT WILL TAKE BOTH GOALIES to be on there game not just one !! Reimer will be on fire this year if he stays healthy !

I think the Oilers are looking to make a deal !!! Jones on waivers !

Franson signs …Leafs need to make room ???? Holzer and Colborne or Liles on the outs to make room $$$$ ….Reilly better make this team !

  2. The Flying V says:

While it is a good tandem, ottawa, new jersey and Anaheim have better.
