Could Jared Cowen (L) face supplemental discipline for this hit on Jeff Skinner?

OTTAWA SUN: The Senators edged the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in a fight-filled contest highlighted by Jared Cowen’s hit on Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner, knocking the latter from the game with a suspected concusssion.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Cowen could face supplemental discipline for this hit (at left).

TORONTO STAR: The Maple Leafs will have to wait another game to clinch an Eastern Conference playoff berth, as they fell to the Washington Capitals 5-1.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Senators win and the Leafs loss moves the former only three points behind the latter for fifth overall in the Eastern Conference.

WINNIPEG SUN: Andrew Ladd scored in a shootout as the Jets edged the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3. The win keeps the Jets tied with the NY Rangers, though the latter retains eighth overall because they hold a game in hand.

VANCOUVER SUN: Despite Cory Schneider’s stellar play, the Canucks fell to the St. Louis Blues 2-1 in a shootout.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: The Oilers dropped their sixth straight game, falling 5-3 to the Minnesota Wild.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The change of management earlier this week didn’t have much of an impact upon the roster. That, however, will likely change in the off-season.

CALGARY HERALD: Tonight could be Miikka Kiprusoff’s final home game with the Flames.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Flames fans should turn out tonight and give “Kipper” a proper send-off. He and now-departed captain Jarome Iginla carried the Flames  to the 2004 Stanley Cup Final, and from 2005-06 to 2009-10, he ranked among the league’s elite goaltenders.

LA PRESSE: Ryan White heads to NHL HQ in New York City for a hearing over his hit to the head of Flyers defenseman Kent Huskins.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: White could face a significant suspension, perhaps over five games.

  1. I cannot believe Carlyle decided to throw Scrivens in net, who has not played in almost 3 weeks against the hottest team and goal scorer in the league.I realize Reimer probably needed a rest but could it not have waited another game or two? Reimer has been lights out. Scrivens should have at least been pulled after the 3rd goal when they had a chance and time to get back into the game. Lupul should have had more practices in before returning. And when you are trying to shut down a team like Washington, you need more defense and less offense. Kostka should have played last night instead of Gardiner. C’mon Randy!
