NHL Entry Draft Rumor Roundup (Part 3).

With the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft imminent, here’s the latest on Rick Nash, Roberto Luongo, Bobby Ryan, Tim Thomas, Jay Bouwmeester, PK Subban and more!

COLUMBUS DISPATCH: Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson said he’s not close to a trade for Rick Nash, but Howson seems almost excited about the possibility of moving his first round pick (second overall).

PHILLY.COM: The Philadelphia Flyers continue their pursuit of Nash, and are also in talks with the Anaheim Ducks regarding Bobby Ryan. It’s also highly unlikely the Flyers will target Predators RFA blueliner Shea Weber with an offer sheet on July 1.

SPORTSNET.CA: Mike Brophy believes it’s only a matter of time until the Vancouver Canucks ship Roberto Luongo to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

NEW YORK TIMES: Jeff Z. Klein speculates the NY Rangers could pursue Pittsburgh Penguins center Jordan Staal, though that appears a long shot and secondary to their pursuit of Rick Nash and Bobby Ryan.

CSNNE.COM: Joe Haggerty reports goaltender Tim Thomas agreed over a week ago to waive his “no-trade” clause, as a favor to the Bruins to help them clear salary. The clause was due to expire anyway on July 1. Thomas remains determined to sit out next season, meaning any team interested in acquiring his rights would be doing so to reach the salary cap floor for next season.

Subban being shopped after all?

SPORTSNET.CA: Pat Steinberg reports the Calgary Flames have had trade talks regarding defenseman Jay Bouwmeester.

SPORTSNET’s Nick Kypreos reported via Twitter “Sources saying #Canadiensquietly shopping PK Subban. Would PK entice #Oilers for package deal involving 1st #NHL over-all pick?”

NEWSDAY’s Arthur Staple reported via Twitter#Isles GM Garth Snow working hard to acquire a veteran D this weekend here in Pitt.”

ESPN.COM: Pierre LeBrun reported a source saying Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle is “definitely in play”, but a team source said the club was only fielding calls, not shopping Yandle.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: So, Rick Nash could be traded, or not. Sounds more likely the Jackets could trade the second overall pick than move Nash tonight…Don’t expect Staal to be traded tonight…Last I heard regarding Ryan, Ducks are still listening to offers, but aren’t actively peddling him…Maybe Luongo gets dealt to Toronto, but I’m not holding my breath expecting it tonight, or this weekend…I expect Thomas’ rights could be dealt after July 1, as teams which might wish to reach cap floor will likely want to sign/acquire actual players who’ll take to the ice for them next season first…Bouwmeester could move, maybe to one of those teams which might need to reach the cap floor…The Subban story only broke this afternoon. Everything I’d heard prior to that indicated the Habs weren’t moving him. We’ll have to wait and see if this actually takes place, though if the Canadiens do trade him, they’d better get a sweet return, or Habs fans will go ballistic…As for Yandle, it’ll take a scoring forward to pry him out of Phoenix.

  1. NASH

I believe there is a solid chance he could be a Senator by the end of the night. A little bit of it is hope, but I feel this is the only/best chance for Ottawa to land him while they have a high draft pick.

    RYAN + YANDLE

If these two are being shopped I am not seeing the odds that it happens today as the teams linked to them have very low draft picks that wouldn’t be a good enticement as part of a deal.

    LUONGO

I think he’ll be moved, but doubt it will be tonight. Just a feeling that other goalies are going to have to be out of play first, Bernier, Pavalec for example.

    THOMAS

Agree won’t be moved until after July 1st, I think maybe even mid summer which would be bad for the Bruins for shipping his contract.

    BOUWMEESTER

I think there is a chance he is dealt tonight, but I wouldn’t hold my breathe on it. This would be the time for Calgary to try and do it, but not sure they will find a deal.

    STAAL

Only way he is moved today is if it to the Carolina Hurricanes and involving the 8th OA pick and something else. Other than that I don’t believe he is moved tonight or for a bit.

    SUBBAN

I doubt he is ‘actually in play’ and if he is I hope for the Habs it isn’t a move up scenario. I believe Subban is better than Murray and it would have to be IMO straight up for the #1 OA in a hope that you grab Yakupov at #1 and Murray at #3! But if it is for a move up scenario the Oilers are going to be dancing in the streets!

  2. You don’t think Yandle’s going to the Isles for #4 overall?

  3. Really hope Subban is not in play. Only scenarion that MIGHT cut it: We yakupov, keep our
#3, AND swing something for Yandle. Should be interesting…Happy Draft Day everybody!

  4. Would love to see oil get PK and 3rd and take Galchenyuk. Would fill two of our biggest needs. Might take #1, #32 and Schultz or smid or maybe even hemsky who would look good with plecanic

  5. Please don’t post things from Kypreos in the future. The guys a moron who took too many knocks to the head during his time as an NHL punching bag. He never reports anything that’s true and rarely even manages to keep his one remaining brain cell on hockey topics

  6. Bruins need to move up in the draft maybe snag forsberg

  7. Kypreos rumour on Subban is weird. The Habs want bigger scoring forwards up front and I do not know who fits both of those bills at the same time in Edmonton. maybe with PK’s brother Malcolm going to Boston, there is a fit there. However if I am Montreal I want Lucic as part of the return.

  8. “Don’t expect Staal to be traded tonight”

Well, your streak remains perfect … wrong 100% of the time

    • Love you too, Ed. As long as you keep reading, that’s all that matter to me.
