Updates on Luongo, Jagr, Hemsky, Stralman, and more.

SUN-SENTINEL.COM: Mike Berardino reports bring back Roberto Luongo could make sense for the Florida Panthers, as his off-season home remains in Parkland, close to his wife’s family, and he’s rumored to have told Canucks management the Panthers are his only acceptable destination. A Panthers source believes time is on their side. “If they can get Luongo for little more than future draft picks, it could be worth the Panthers’ while to roll the dice and assume his contract”, writes Berardino.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: He also noted the Panthers would have to move either Jose Theodore or recently re-signed Scott Clemmensen. It also puts Jacob Markstrom’s future in doubt. Still, if they were to move on Luongo, they’ll likely shop Theodore, despite his “no-trade” clause, or Clemmensen.

Habs not interested in Jagr.

CANOE.CA: Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin is not interested in signing former Flyers winger Jaromir Jagr.

EDMONTON JOURNAL’s Jim Matheson reports the following via Twitter regarding Ales Hemsky: “Tambellini steadfastly says no discussions to trade Hemsky but could he be No. 3 RW behind eberle and yakupov?”

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Looks like we’ll have to wait until next season – whenever it starts – to find out.

NEW YORK POST: Larry Brooks reports it appears RFA defenseman Anton Stralman is leaning toward re-signing with the Rangers, and could file for salary arbitration by Thursday. It appears more plausible the Rangers will attempt to negotiate a new contract with him. They’ve also maintained contact with UFA Ruslan Fedotenko.

MLIVE.COM: Ansar Khan reports Detroit Red Wings number 3 goalie Joey MacDonald doesn’t want to spend another season in the AHL, so the Wings will try to move him to another NHL team.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The writing was on the wall for MacDonald when the Wings signed Jonas Gustavsson.

CSNNE.COM: Joe Haggarty reports the Bruins aren’t planning any major free agent signings, but GM Peter Chiarelli is “dabbling” in the market, likely in pursuit of a “Mark Recchi-type” third-line veteran winger in the mold of Shane Doan, Jason Arnott, Daniel Winnik or Steve Sullivan via free agency.”

NEWSDAY: Arthur Staple reports free agent defenseman Bryce Salvador has informed the Islanders they’re out of the running for his services.

TAMPABAY.COM: Damian Cristodero reports it’s believed Lightning GM Steve Yzerman has been in contact with the agents for UFA defensemen Matt Carle. Cristodero also noted “Michal Rozsival, Carlo Colaiacovo and Bryce Salvadore also are available.”

6 Responses to NHL Free Agent and Trade Rumors (Part 1) – July 3, 2012.

  1. DaBroons says:

The Broons need a third-line LW. Arnott is a centre and Doan is a RW, although the latter would be a great fit in Boston.

The Carey Price contract is insane!

  2. Todd Gordon says:

Bruins already got their free agency veteran – 30 yr old Michele Oulette so doubt Chiarelli is working on another one

  3. Habsfan1 says:

I have to question a little the article about Jagr and the Habs. Bergevin on TSN/Pulse News said he WAS interested in both Jagr and Semin BUT not at their price. If jagr is asking for 4 million, he will not get it from Mtl. If he were to drop that to, say (my own speculation here) 2 million, there would be talk. Point is, I do not interpret this as having ‘no interest’ and that the Habs are still snooping for skill a la Jagr/Semin.

  4. MICHAEL says:

Too bad Luongo does not want to go to the Leafs as it seams BB has opened up his wallet to allow Gillis to take what he needs. He only wants to go to Florida and that puts the Canucks at a disadvantage.

  5. Rotter says:

If Luongo cant figure something out with florida, im sure hed rather start in toronto or chicago rather than have his contract buried in the minors

  6. mattstake says:

Luongo sucks..plain and simple..over paid, under skilled. he aint no HANK!!
