Taylor Hall enjoying his time in Oklahoma City with Jordan Eberle, Jarome Iginla’s 500th NHL goal tops Calgary’s top sporting moments of 2012, and the impact of the NHL’s proposed CBA upon the Montreal Canadiens.

EDMONTON SUN: Oilers winger Taylor Hall is enjoying his time playing with teammate Jordan Eberle on the club’s Oklahoma City farm team, and believes they’ll be ready if the NHL should return to action this season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: In addition to Hall and Eberle, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has also spent considerable time this season in Oklahoma City, and promising defenseman Justin Schultz has been among the AHL’s dominant players so far. If there is NHL hockey this season, these young stars could propel the Oilers to their first post-season berth since 2006.

CALGARY SUN: Wes Gilbertson considers Jarome Iginla’s 500th career NHL goal to be the top sporting moment in Calgary in 2012.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Pat Hickey believes the NHL’s proposed CBA, which would result in the salary cap dropping next season to $60 million, will have an adverse effect upon the Canadiens, who currently have $60.1 million invested in 16 players for 2013-14. They must re-sign RFA P.K. Subban and David Desharnais, and could ink prospect Alexander Galchenyuk to an entry level deal before this season starts.  They could free up over $7 million in cap space by buying out Scott Gomez, but will still have Tomas Kaberle ($4.25 million) and Rene Bourque ($3.3 million) on their books.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Kaberle and Bourque could be demoted or loaned overseas, but if the NHL gets its way by having part of those salaries still count against the salary cap for demoted players, the Habs will still have difficulty making the dollars fit.
