The Vancouver Canucks come clean on the injury status of Alex Edler and Jason Garrison, Oilers prospect Justin Schultz shines in AHL debut, and Canadiens forward Colby Armstrong wins a steak dinner from a Montreal Gazette reporter.

 

Edler sidelined by back injury.

VANCOUVER SUN: The Canucks have finally confirmed the injury status of defensemen Alex Edler and Jason Garrison, reporting Edler has a slightly bulging disc in his back and Garrison has a groin injury. Both players remain on the club’s payroll during the lockout until such time as they’re cleared to play.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Oilers prospect defenseman Justin Schultz had an impressive debut with their AHL club, chalking up an assist as the Oklahoma City Barons fell 2-1 to the Lake Eric Monsters. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle also played for the Barons but were held scoreless.

 MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens forward Colby Armstrong earned a steak dinner from Gazette columnist Dave Stubbs after taking up the latter’s challenge to tweet between shifts in Thursday’s Tournée des joueurs charity game at Quebec’s Le Colisée Pepsi.
