NHL Lockout (Day 87) Canadian Corner – December 11, 2012.

Daniel Alfredsson turns 40, Manny Malhotra on the CBA negotiations, an update on the Edmonton downtown arena project, and Jets head coach getting anxious to return to work.

Happy 40th birthday, “Alfie”.

OTTAWA SUN: Happy birthday to Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson, who turns 40 today.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Canucks player rep Manny Malhotra dismissed the suggestion the CBA standoff could be resolved by both sides splitting the difference on key issues.“You’d like to think so, but coming from where we have and going in their [owners'] direction all summer long and having no reciprocation on their part, I don’t think splitting the difference at this point would be in fact splitting it — it would be us conceding more to them”. Malhotra won’t be participating in future CBA meetings, as his wife is expecting a child soon.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: David Staples reports the Katz Group has requested to appear before the Edmonton City council on Wednesday to make a presentation on the downtown arena project. “Councillors are scheduled to have their first update on the arena Wednesday since they voted unanimously to end negotiations with Katz in mid-October”, reports Staples.

WINNIPEG SUN:  The lockout has left Jets head coach Claude Noel with little to do and itching to get back to work.
