Kesler’s off-season surgeries sideline him longer than expected.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE:  Ryan Kesler’s agent claims his client remains “several months away” from returning to action from off-season surgeries.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It was originally hoped he’d be medically cleared by December. This would be a significant blow for the Canucks depth at center if the season starts up within the next month.

OTTAWA SUN: Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson, playing for Jokerit of the SM-Liiga in Finland,  received a one-game suspension for throwing his stick at a referee following a 4-2 loss to TPS Turku on December 8.

EDMONTON SUN: Jordan Eberle commented on the similarities and differences between the AHL and NHL.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: Jets captain Andrew Ladd, who played for Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships in 2005, passed along some advice to Jets prospect center Mark Scheifele, who will be participating for Canada in the upcoming 2013 championship.

TORONTO STAR: Maple Leafs star Joffrey Lupul said his time in the KHL was worthwhile, but he’s looking forward to returning to the NHL.
