DETROIT NEWS/STLTODAY.COM: The Red Wings rallied from falling behind 2-0 in the third, as Johan Franzen tallied twice to tie it, leading to Todd Bertuzzi’s shootout winner. Until the third period of that game it was scoreless, looking like it would be a tight defensive struggle, but things really opened up in the third. Could be an exciting series if these two meet in the post-season.

MERCURYNEWS.COM: The San Jose Sharks must get past the Los Angeles Kings in their upcoming home-and-home series to clinch a playoff berth.

LOS ANGELES TIMES: The Kings, meanwhile, need only one point to clinch a playoff spot, and could gain the Pacific Division crown with a win over San Jose tonight and a Phoenix Coyotes regulation loss to St. Louis on Friday.

MIAMI HERALD: The Florida Panthers need only one point to clinch their first playoff berth in twelve years. After blowing a golden opportunity to clinch that spot on Tuesday against the Winnipeg Jets, the Panthers face a big test tonight against divisional rival Washington Capitals.

WASHINGTON POST: Several scenarios how the Capitals can clinch a playoff berth. A Capitals win over the Panthers combined with a Sabres loss tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers would be a huge step in that direction.

DALLAS MORNING NEWS: How the Stars can still make the playoffs. They must win all their remaining games, and need the Phoenix Coyotes and LA Kings to stumble in their remaining two games.

DENVER POST: The Colorado Avalanche, hoping to keep their fading playoff hopes alive, will start Semyon Varlamov in goal tonight in a must-win game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

NEWSDAY: Despite another disappointing finish for the NY Islanders, franchise player John Tavares has made huge strides this season.

CHICAGO TRIBUNE: Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews now hopes to return from post-concussion symptoms on Saturday against Detroit.

ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER: It’s been a season to forget for Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf.

THE TENNESSEAN: Martin Erat is enjoying a breakout performance this season with the Predators.

CSNNE.COM: Boston Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask is making progress in his recovery from a groin injury, but forward Nathan Horton (concussion) remains doubtful to return this season.

NEW YORK TIMES: An emotional Wayne Gretzky recently admitted his father, Walter, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

    Horton tried to skate once in February but was immediately shut down after not feeling well. He took a 40 minute skate the other day, and as yet there has been no update.
    Amazingly, Boychuk is day to day with a mild knee strain. It looked so much worse.
