Rangers clinch a playoff berth, Predators face a must-win game, Lightning re-sign GM Steve Yzerman, plus updates on Scottie Upshall, Mike Green, R.J. Umberger, Nathan Gerbe and Zac Rinaldo.

NOTE: As all of last night’s games involved Canadian NHL teams, they will  be recapped in “Canadian Corner”.

NEW YORK POST: Thanks to the New Jersey Devils losing to the Calgary Flames, the idle New York Rangers clinched a playoff berth.

THE TENNESSEAN: The Nashville Predators face a must-win game tonight against the Dallas Stars if they hope to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Panthers' Scottie Upshall could set a dubious record this season.

Panthers’ Scottie Upshall could set a dubious record this season.

MIAMI HERALD: Florida Panthers forward Scottie Upshall could set a league record for the fewest points by a team’s leading scorer over a full 82-game schedule. Upshall leads the Panthers with 36 points. The current record is 39, set by Scott Pellerin with the Minnesota Wild in 2001.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: That would overshadow the fact Upshall is having a career year, having turned around his season following a poor start.

TBO.COM: The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed GM Steve Yzerman to a four-year contract extension.

CSNWASHINGTON.COM: Capitals defenseman Mike Green is out for the remainder of the season with an upper-body injury.

COLUMBUS DISPATCH: Blue Jackets forward R.J. Umberger (upper-body injury) has been sidelined at least two weeks.

NEWSOBSERVER.COM: Carolina Hurricanes forward Nathan Gerbe could be re-signed unless the club decides to get bigger and more physical.

PHILLY.COM: Flyers winger Zac Rinaldo received a four-game suspension for an illegal hit to the head of Buffalo Sabres defenseman Chad Ruhwedel.
