NHL Morning Coffee Headlines – February 27, 2012.

Believe it or not, there are other noteworthy things which occurred overnight in the NHL. Read on for the latest non-trade deadline news.

ARIZONA REPUBLIC: The Coyotes are one of the hottest teams in the league right now, unbeaten in their last 11 games (10-0-1), perched atop the Pacific Division.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Anyone still dumb enough to believe the Coyotes will trade Shane Doan or Ray Whitney?

OCREGISTER.COM: The Anaheim Ducks keep the momentum rolling, beating the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1. “This fully resuscitated bunch is now 17-4-4 since Jan. 1, for an NHL-best 38 points. The Ducks also are 9-1-1 in their past 11 games at home, 8-1-3 in the past 12 overall.”

CHICAGO TRIBUNE: The Blackhawks have returned to their losing ways, dropping their third straight as they fell to the Anaheim Ducks 3-1.

Sharks coach injured during loss to Wild.

MERCURYNEWS.COM: Sharks head coach Todd McLellan was injured after taking a stick to the head during the Sharks 4-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild. The Sharks also lost leading scoring Logan Couture to a lower body injury early in the game. McLellan doesn’t appear to have suffered a serious injury.

DETROIT FREE PRESS: Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson is out a month with a broken wrist. GM Ken Holland isn’t expected to seek a replacement via the trade market.

DENVER POST: Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog continues to rank among the league’s top rookies and could be a finalist for the Calder Trophy.

MIAMI HERALD: Stephen Weiss scored twice as the Florida Panthers downed the listless Montreal Canadiens 4-2, to take over sole possession of first in the Southeast Division.

TAMPA BAY TIMES:Martin St. Louis netted a hat trick as the Lightning downed the New Jersey Devils 4-3.

PITTSBURGHLIVE.COM: Callup goalie Brad Thiessen backstopped the Penguins to a 4-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets

THE BUFFALO NEWS: Bucky Gleason believes the Sabres turnover should start with GM Darcy Regier.
