WASHINGTON POST: Martin Erat was selected by the Czech Republic coach to replace injured winger Vladimir Sobotka over Calgary’s Jiri Hudler and Phoenix’s Radim Vrbata.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Czech coach believes Erat will fill the need for a two-way forward created by Sobotka’s injury. I still believe they would be better off with Hudler or Vrbata.
CSN BAY AREA: Adam Burish (back injury) is set to finally make his season debut with the Sharks this week.
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Blackhawks defenseman Nick Leddy is starting to prove he can be an offensive presence.
NJ.COM: In an effort to improve his offense, New Jersey Devils coach Pete DeBoer is shaking up his top two lines, separating Jaromir Jagr and Travis Zajac.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Jagr wasn’t pleased with the move but there’s little DeBoer can do until management lands him a scoring left wing before the trade deadline.
PHILLY.COM: Keith Allen, the first general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers, passed away at age 90. Allen was the architect of the Flyers two Stanley Cup championship teams.
