DALLAS MORNING NEWS: Kari Lehtonen made 26 saves and Valeri Nichushkin’s second period goal stood as the winner as the Dallas Stars edged the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1. The win vaulted the Stars over the Coyotes and Vancouver Canucks into the final wild card berth in the Western Conference.
LOS ANGELES TIMES: Ryan Getzlaf scored twice and Corey Perry netted his 30th goal of the season as the Anaheim Ducks snapped a three-game losing skid with a 5-2 victory over the Nashville Predators.
DENVER POST: Late goals by Gabriel Landeskog and Paul Stastny helped the Colorado Avalanche to stave off a late rally by the New York Islanders on route to a 5-2 win. Matt Duchene scored twice for the Avs.
TBO.COM: Ondrej Palat scored twice as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-2.
WASHINGTON POST: Martin Erat scored his first goal of the season and rookie Julien Brouillette tallied his first NHL goal as the Washington Capitals blanked the New Jersey Devils 3-0.

SUN-SENTINEL.COM: Florida Panthers forward Sean Bergenheim turned down a request to join Finland’s Olympic team. It’s believed he’s done so to allow more time for him to rehab his core after groin and midsection injuries sidelined him for all of last season and part of this season.
NBC SPORTS: reports the Los Angeles Kings placed forward Colin Fraser on waivers.
