John Tavares leads Islanders over Red Wings…Rangers win their fifth straight…Selanne and Koivu lead Ducks over Stars…Devils rookie Adam Henrique gets “Gordie Howe hat trick” in losing cause…Stars Mike Ribeiro suffers knee injury…Stalberg’s hat trick leads Blackhawks over Blue Jackets…Penguins lose another player and another game…Lightning’s Adam Hall suffers arm injury…Wild struggling to score…Remembering Ron Caron.

NEW YORK POST: John Tavares had a goal and an assist, while Evgeni Nabokov made 23 saves, as the Islanders downed the Detroit Red Wings 5-1, running the Isles record against Western Conference teams to 15-1-7 in their last 23 games.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Maybe in the next divisional realignment they should relocate the Isles to the Western Conference?

NEW YORK POST: The Rangers won their fifth straight, edging the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1.

ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER: Saku Koivu netted a rare hat trick as the Anaheim Ducks won their third straight, defeating the Dallas Stars 5-2.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Ducks have been a different team since GM Bob Murray called out his core players midway through last week.

Ribeiro suffers knee injury.

DALLAS MORNING NEWS: Stars center Mike Ribeiro has suffered a slight tear to the MCL tendon in his right knee in a recent game against Edmonton, but has been playing with a brace on the knee. Ribeiro claims he’s fine but the team wants to make sure, scheduling him for an MRI on Monday and sitting him against the Ducks last night.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Ribeiro continues to impress with his toughness this season, but he should be very careful in continuing to play with that knee injury, as the Stars will need him later in the season if they hope to make the playoffs.

NJ.COM: Devils rookie forward Adam Henrique had a Gordie Howe hat trick (goal, assist, fight) in a losing cause as his club fell 6-3 to the Calgary Flames.

CHICAGO TRIBUNE: Viktor Stalberg had a hat trick as the Blackhawks downed the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2.

POST-GAZETTE: The Penguins lost another player and another game, as rookie defenseman Simon Despres was knocked out of last night’s 5-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Penguins did get some good news regarding James Neal, who as it turns out suffered only a bruised foot, not a broken foot as originally reported.

TAMPA BAY TIMES: Lightning forward Adam Hall could be out two months with a forearm injury.

TWINCITIES.COM: Despite last night’s 5-4 OT win over the San Jose Sharks, the Minnesota Wild have been struggling to score over the past month.

THE GLOBE AND MAIL: Ron Caron, the former colorful GM of the St. Louis Blues, recently passed away at the age of 82. His two biggest moves were the trades which brought Brett Hull and Adam Oates to St. Louis, forming one of the most lethal offensive combinations in NHL history.

  1. Gordie Howe hat trick. Excellent!

The Alex Burrows hat trick: a spear, a dive, and a bite.

  2. The Brad Marchand Hatrick: A goal, an Avery style taunt and a submarine hit.

  3. The Matt Cullen hat trick: SHG, PPG, SOG.

  4. The Shawn Thornton hat trick: Sucker punch, hit from behind, fight with unwilling combatant.

  5. not bad for his first nhl fight to go against iginla (although no real punches were thrown). Henrique is going to in the talk for rookie of the year, 7 short handed points, 3 game winners, playing 1st line centre.

  6. Avery’s shenanigans are cheeky and fun. Marchand’s shenanigans are cruel and tragic.

  7. Avery is the farthest thing from funny. He is a good portion of the argument against the instigator rule. I dislike him far more than even Corey Perry or Steve Ott. I hope that guy never plays again.

  8. which makes them not really shenanigans at all.

  9. @ chass

    Well played. Lol

  10. no one is going to threaten to pistol whip anyone?

  11. Great opening commentary from the first 4 posters! lol

  12. I swear to god I’ll pistol whip the next person who says shenanigans!

  13. Marchand hat trick: Slew-foot, turtle on a hit, turning down a fight.

Man I could go all day.

  14. hey Dabroons,
what’s that restaurant you love with all the crazy shit on the walls?

  15. Ribeiro should take great caution with that injury. I had the exact same thing while playing minor hockey a few years ago now and started playing within a week and a half. I pushed it too hard at the time and the knee hasn’t been the same since.

  16. Hey Farva, what’s that restaurant you like?
