STLTODAY.COM: Goals by defensemen Barrett Jackman, Kevin Shattenkirk and Jay Bouwmeester lifted the St. Louis Blues to a 4-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings, who also lost goalie Jimmy Howard (day-to-day) to a knee injury.

BOSTON GLOBE: Brad Marchand scored twice as the Boston Bruins toppled the Los Angles Kings 3-2.

THE TENNESSEAN: The Predators scored four unanswered goals and Carter Hutton made 35 saves on route to a 4-1 win over the slumping Dallas Stars.

SUNSENTINEL.COM: Drew Shore scored twice and Scott Clemmensen made 35 saves as the Florida Panthers upset the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1, snapping the Penguins 13-game winning streak at home.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: Kyle Okposo scored the game-tying goal and followed up with the shootout winner as the NY Islanders edged the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3.

TBO.COM: Tampa Bay Lightning captain Martin St. Louis was the NHL’s first star of the week for last week. Kings goalie Jonathan Quick and Blackhawks netminder Corey Crawford were the second and third stars.

CSNCHICAGO.COM: Despite age (35) and injuries, Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa remains an offensive force, with 42 points in 46 games this season.

TWINCITIES.COM: With Josh Harding battling MS symptoms and Niklas Backstrom troubled by a lower-body injury, call-up Darcy Kuemper will get his fifth straight start tonight when the Minnesota Wild face off against the Dallas Stars tonight.

NJ.COM: For the first time since the opening day of training camp, the New Jersey Devils are fully healthy.

THE HOCKEY NEWS: Research reveals injuries are costing the NHL $218 million annually in lost salaries.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Though insurance usually reimburses teams for salaries paid out to seriously injured players over the course of a season, that’s still a significantly large number of dollars lost to injuries. If these numbers increase it could push NHL owners and the NHLPA to improve player safety.
