LOS ANGELES TIMES/DENVER POST: The Colorado Avalanche overcame a 1-0 deficit with three goals in just over 8 minutes in the third period to down the LA Kings 3-1. Gabriel Landeskog, David Jones and P.A. Parenteau tallied for the Avs, and goalie Semyon Varlamov made 28 saves for the victory. Kyle Clifford netted the Kings only goal. The loss dropped the defending Stanley Cup champions record to 0-2.

NORTHJERSEY.COM/PHILLY.COM: Martin Brodeur made 24 saves to earn his 120th career NHL shutout as the New Jersey Devils blanked the Philadelphia Flyers 3-0. Travis Zajac, David Clarkson and Ilya Kolvalchuk were the goalscorers for the Devils. The Flyers struggling offense is being blamed on their 0-3 season-opening record.

DALLAS MORNING NEWS/DETROIT NEWS: Michael Ryder scored twice and Kari Lehtonen made 39 saves as the Dallas Stars edged the Detroit Red Wings 2-1.  Damien Brunner scored for the Wings, who earlier in the day signed free agent defenseman Kent Huskins to a one-year, one-way contract worth a prorated $750K.

THE TENNESSEAN/STARTRIBUNE.COM: A botched clearing attempt by Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom resulted in Nashville Predators forward Martin Erat scoring what became the game-winning goal as the Predators downed the Wild 3-1.

CSNCHICAGO/STLTODAY.COM: The Chicago Blackhawks took a three-goal lead, then withstood a third-period rally to nip the St. Louis Blues 3-2. Patrick Kane, Brent Seabrook and Viktor Stalberg tallied for the ‘Hawks, while Andy McDonald and T.J. Oshie scored for the Blues.

TAMPA BAY TIMES/NEWSOBSERVER.COM: Vincent Lecavalier collected two assists and Mathieu Garon kicked out 35 shots as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1.

THE BUFFALO NEWS: Sabres forward Jochen Hecht has made a full recovery from the career-threatening concussion he suffered a year ago and is relishing the opportunity to be a role-player with the Sabres.
