NEWSOBSERVER.COM; Jeff Skinner scored the game winner as the Carolina Hurricanes nipped the Nashville Predators 2-1. The Hurricanes also learned captain Eric Staal will only miss 5-6 days with a lower-body injury.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Skinner now has nine points in his last four games. If he can avoid injury over the rest of the season he’ll be on pace for over 40 goals and 70 points.

NOTE: Games involving Canadian NHL teams are recapped in “Canadian Corner”.

NBC SPORTS: Sergei Bobrovsky, who’s been sidelined a month with a groin injury, is set to return to action tonight against the NY Rangers.

LOS ANGELES TIMES: The Kings have demoted goaltender Martin Jones.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: That’s because of the return of starter Jonathan Quick, not because of Jones’ play.  They could afford to demote him because he’s waiver-exempt.  If Quick re-injures his groin or if the Kings trade Ben Scrivens before the trade deadline, Jones will be back.

THE BUFFALO NEWS: Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers will face an NHL disciplinary hearing today for his illegal hit to the head of New Jersey’s Dainius Zubrus on Saturday. Myers has previously served a three-game suspension for boarding.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Myers could face a five game suspension this time around.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: Rangers forward Chris Kreider is thriving under head coach Alain Vigneault.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Rangers as a team may still be adjusting to Vigneault’s style but Kreider is one of his success stories.  His game is tailor-made for Vigneault’s system.

MIAMI HERALD: Defenseman Erik Gudbranson (orbital bone surgery) is expected to return to the Florida Panthers lineup today.

DALLAS MORNING NEWS: A look at where the Dallas Stars are this season compared to last.
