Bruins defeat Kings, Lidstrom returns as Red Wings down Hurricanes, Millers stars as Sabres tame the Wild, Sharks get shootout victory over Coyotes, Stamkos tallies twice in Lightning win over Islanders, Blues playoff picture murky, Zajac to return today as Devils face Penguins, league fines Devils for line brawl, and Nicklas Backstrom skates with Capitals.

BOSTON HERALD: The Bruins celebrated captain Zdeno Chara’s 1,000th NHL game by grinding out a physical 4-2 win over the desperate LA Kings.

DETROIT FREE PRESS: Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom returned to action, as a desperate Red Wings team rallied from a three-goal deficit to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4.

Miller carrying Sabres into playoff berth.

THE BUFFALO NEWS: Ryan Miller made his 28th start in the last 30 Sabres games, kicking out 24 shots as the Sabres defeated the Minnesota Wild 3-1, giving them sole possession of eighth overall in the Eastern Conference, though the Washington Capitals have a game in hand. Only two months ago, most (including myself) observers were writing off the Sabres, but just like last season, they’re making a desperate second-half run for the post-season, and they could sneak in again.

MERCURYNEWS.COM: The San Jose Sharks got a big win over the Phoenix Coyotes, downing them 4-3 in a shootout. The Sharks and Coyotes are among five teams jockeying for one of the two final playoff spots in the Western Conference.

TAMPA BAY TIMES: Steven Stamkos potted his league-leading 51st and 52nd goals as the Lightning edged the NY Islanders 4-3. Matt Moulson got his 100th career NHL goal (most of them scored with the Isles) in the loss.

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is practicing with the team but continues to play it safe in his recovery from post-concussion symptoms.

WASHINGTON POST: Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom has returned to practice with his teammates as he continues his recovery from a concussion.

STLTODAY.COM: As the Blues try to lock down first overall in the Western Conference, it remains to be seen which club will be their first round opponent, because of the number of teams jockeying for the bottom playoff seed.

NEW YORK POST: Travis Zajac will make his return to the Devils when they face the Pittsburgh Penguins today. The league has also reprimanded Devils coach Pete DeBoer and GM Lou Lamoriello for the opening faceoff line brawl against the Rangers last week.
