Rangers eliminate Capitals, Devils await their rival in Conference Final, updates on the Coyotes and Kings, and concern over Patrick Kane’s “party boy” image.

Ovechkin and Lundqvist shake hands following Rangers victory over Capitals.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS/WASHINGTON POST: The NY Rangers have advanced to the Eastern Conference Final for the first time since their Stanley Cup run in 1994, edging the Washington Capitals 2-1 to win the series in seven Games. For the Capitals, this year’s post-season marked the end of the “Young Guns” era, as they relied more on strong goaltending and defensive hockey in this year’s playoffs than on “run-and-gun” offense of the recent past.

NEW YORK POST/NJ.COM: The New Jersey Devils are looking forward to clashing with their rival in the Conference Final. The Rangers have won every playoff series except one  (in 2006) against the Devils, who this spring are bucking the playoff tradition of growing beards.

ARIZONA REPUBLIC/LOS ANGELES TIMES: Entering the series, the Phoenix Coyotes and LA Kings have not trailed in a playoff series this spring. The Coyotes will be without defenseman Adrian Aucoin for Game One, who is suffering an undisclosed injury. The Coyotes and Kings both have the same strengths and have overcome checkered pasts to reach this point.

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Recent photos of an intoxicated Patrick Kane at a recent party on the University of Wisconsin campus are raising concerns about his image.

Ovie didn’t come up small last night, he came up microscopic. Pathetic effort. My lasting image will be Ovie still on his knees in his own zone as the Rags score the winning score. Where was his hustle to get back in the play?

You are right. He doesn’t fit in a defensive minded hockey club. The caps have been trying to make him something he’s not.

It time to cut him loose.
