Kings draw first blood against Coyotes in Western Conference Final, Devils and Rangers set to renew heated rivalry, and the latest on the Capitals, Islanders and Gary Bettman.

Morris celebrates center ice goal against Quick.

LOS ANGELES TIMES/ARIZONA REPUBLIC: Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick overcame a 98-foot goal in the first period to backstop his club to a 4-2 series opening victory against the Phoenix Coyotes, who were dominated by the visitors, outshot 48-27, taking undisciplined penalties and giving up too many turnovers and scoring chances. If not for the goaltending of Mike Smith, this would’ve been far more lopsided, as he kept his teammates to within one goal until pulled for an extra attacker in the final minute of the third.

NJ.COM/NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: The New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers are set to renew their heated rivalry when Game One of the Eastern Conference Final starts tonight. It’ll be up to the head coaches to keep their teams focused on playing the game, rather than fighting it.

CSNWASHINGTON.COM/WASHINGTON TIMES: Capitals head coach Dale Hunter seemed to suggest he’d be willing to return in the role next season, while the two Alexanders (Ovechkin and Semin) will join Russia at the World Hockey Championships.

NEWSDAY: If the NY Islanders are to remain in their current location after their lease in their ageing arena expires in 2015, a new arena plan will have to be proposed soon.

THE GLOBE AND MAIL: Love him or hate him, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has been on a roll of late. Playoff ratings are up, a Kings-Rangers Stanley Cup Final is a possibility, and  financially struggling teams in Phoenix, New Jersey and St. Louis appear to be saved.
