NEW YORK DAILY NEWS/NJ.COM: The NY Rangers steered clear of any forecasts for victory in Game 6 akin to former captain Mark Messier’s 18 years ago (at left), while Devils goalie Martin Brodeur hopes to end comparison to that long-ago Conference Final with a series-clinching win tonight.

LOS ANGELES TIMES: Hiring Darryl Sutter as head coach, the elevation of rookies Dwight King and Jordan Nolan, and the late-season acquisition of Jeff Carter are cited as key factors in the LA Kings advancing to the 2012 Stanley Cup Final.

ARIZONA REPUBLIC: The tempers of the Phoenix Coyotes have cooled since being eliminated by the Kings in the Western Conference Final.

STLTODAY.COM: Blues president John Davidson weighs his job options as new ownership takes over the club. Davidson said his preference is to stay with the Blues, and denied rumors he’d had talks with the Calgary Flames about joining their organization.

DETROIT FREE PRESS: Goaltender Joey MacDonald hopes to become the full-time backup next season for the Red Wings.

COLUMBUS DISPATCH: The Blue Jackets have re-signed forward Ryan Russell to a one-year, two-contract.

PHILLY.COM: Sam Donnellon believes the Flyers are a better team without Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, who have played key roles in the LA Kings march to the Stanley Cup Final.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Perhaps that’s true, but I can’t help but compare this situation  to discovering your ex – the one you broke up with because you believed you found someone better – is now with someone much better than you, while your current flame – the one you dumped your ex for – isn’t what you thought they would be.

  1. Nice analogy on carter and richards Lyle! Especially after this la phoenix series, as I thought Richards especially looked like a man on a mission

  2. The Flyers’ problems aren’t with the players Philly got for “dumping” Richards and Carter it’s with Bryzgalov and their porous defensive system. But I’m sure that doesn’t make fans in Philadelphia feel any better.
