Penguins down the Ducks, Bruins snuff out the Hurricanes, plus the latest on Tyler Seguin, Rick Nash, and more

POST-GAZETTE.COM: Brian Gibbons had a goal and an assist within 62 seconds as the Pittsburgh Penguins downed the Anaheim Ducks 3-1.

BOSTON HERALD:  Carl Soderberg scored and picked up an assist as the Boston Bruins snuffed out the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1.

NBC SPORTS: LA Kings goalie Ben Scrivens, Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin and Minnesota Wild netminder Josh Harding were the NHL’s three stars of the week.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If Scrivens keeps playing as well as he has in relief of the injured Jonathan Quick, he’ll make Kings fans forget about Jonathan Bernier.

NEW YORK POST: Larry Brooks calls upon the Rangers to protect returning star Rick Nash.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Problem is, the Rangers don’t have anyone with equal parts skill and menace to ensure opponents don’t take liberties with Nash.

THE BUFFALO NEWS: Some changes will be coming to the Sabres roster, as some of their younger players (like Mikhail Grigorenko and Nikita Zadorov) could either be returned to their junior teams or demoted to the minors.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Rushing their promising young players into the lineup was one reason the Sabres are off to a poor start and why Darcy Regier is no longer the general manager.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: NBC Sports Network will air a seven-part series following several NHL stars through the league’s outdoor Stadium Series games, the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and the Heritage Classic. Among those profiled are NY Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, and the Vancouver Canucks’ Sedin twins.

CSNCHICAGO: The Blackhawks will sell melted ice from their 2013 Stanley Cup championship run.

    How can they return Grigorenko? He has already played 15 matches this season.
